I am inclined to agree with a friend of mine that the latest flick from the Kung Fu Panda franchise is the series' Empire Strikes Back. The movie explores deeper concepts from the first film and yet remains fun and humorous. I think though that most of the supporting characters still remain two-dimensional apart perhaps from Po's father. Needless to say, Kung "Fun" Panda 2 is a solid movie to keep you entertained and will hopefully be followed through.
