Deconstructing Rizal

Today is the birthday of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. I managed to take this photo of Rizal en route to Mt. Banahaw (due south of Metro Manila) while on a trip for PI 100.

According to Dr. Nilo Ocampo (if I can recall correctly) this is one of the few statues of Rizal where he is depicted as a child.

I created this collage to signify the deconstruction of Rizal wherein his literary prowess showed in his controversial poem "Sa aking mga kababata" ("To my fellow youngsters"). The poem is fairly controversial because some are casting doubts on the authenticity of Rizal being the author of this poem.

Anyway, history aside, I wish I worked in the province of Laguna today where they have no work...

Happy Birthday Rizal!
Hope you're proud of what we've become. :)
