It is rare for a TV series to connect to such a wide range of audiences and even rarer for musicals. In the same genre as High School Musical which caters to a much younger crowd, Glee is a tougher series based on an Ohio High School Glee Club where kids are tackling issues like popularity, individuality,teen pregnancy and other Disney unworthy cliches. With songs ranging from pop, r&b to country, the ensemble cast of characters and voices is simply amazing. The first volume of songs coming from the show is definitely a must have and will keep you holding on for the next one.

Among the more enjoyable tracks in the first volume is the unofficial theme song “Don’t Stop Believing”, an excellent rendition of “Defying Gravity” and the much loved anthem “Taking Chances”.

R&B Prince

As I was backstage at the Mandy Moore concert, I stumbled upon hordes of fans waiting for Ms. Moore (who apparently left earlier). Still backstage though was local R&B artist Jay R, touted as the Prince of R&B. Oh btw, I’m sorry but I’m not anywhere in this picture.

R&B Princess

Arnee Hidalgo or just “Arnee” has been touted as the Philippines’ very own R&B Princess but as much as titles go, don’t believe everything you hear. Her album “Cold Summer Nights” is a mix of pop, r&b, ballads and revivals. Her performances so far are very interesting with more covers of one of her favorite singers, Beyonce. Hopefully, Arnee sets her focus on her singing and not just her title as R&B Princess because I hope there’s more to hear.

There are songs and then there are songs that have weight in your life and John Mayer is one of those artists who have a talent for making such songs. His songs exude a richness often lost in today’s pop tunes and off the shelf hits. With his new album “Heavier Things” John Mayer breaks out of that one-album wonder status and finds a new niche with his fans around the world.

Among the more enjoyable tracks in his new album is the break song “Bigger than my body”, the sad and telling tale of “Split Screen Sadness” and the home-sicks’ ultimate theme song “Home Life”.

With the release of another single, “Come back to bed” some people are still waiting for that “big bang” that he garnered with his 2001 release. I suggest you stop waiting for that something missing and simply enjoy this new deep.
