Real Steel is fast paced, comedic at times and enormously enjoyable and a classic Spielberg produced movie about father issues. All in all awesome and good enough to watch for kids and families (albeit with parental supervision).

Although… who else thought the kid was like a younger Justin Bieber?

27 Dresses, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 4 Weddings and a Funeral, 50 First Dates… a lot of romantic comedies have played the number card before and What’s Your Number? was a pleasant get away for a date night – or for accompanying that hopeless romantic single friend to a movie.

Like most of the romantic comedies before it, What’s Your Number follows a standard formula of hopeless-girl meets not-my-type guy and then lets it play from there (oh come on you know how this will end). It was all around funny and the combination of Anna Farris and Chris Evans blended well together yet somehow this movie needed a little bit more oomph. Hold on to the aww moments and bring a date.

The final Harry Potter movie is out, the final adaption from the 7 book saga and it’s a bittersweet ending. While the movie is indeed a little anticlimactic (the fight scenes are not as good as one hopes), the epic ending is still a good movie and much enjoyable on IMAX than on 2D. At some point I did recall that the film got some people crying (more so on IMAX than on 2D).

I’m in a bit of a wonder as to why this movie would have been released together with other big budget films like Transformers and Harry Potter but hey it’s a movie for kids (or the young at heart). At times enjoyable but very much predictable in most parts, Monte Carlo with its trio of Leighton Meester, Katie Cassidy and Selena Gomez offers a different and lighter summer blockbuster movie to film viewers. We suggest you watch this with your kids or younger siblings.

Transformers 3 seemed different without Megan Fox but the new cast was not bad at all especially with McDreamy starring in the latest release. I liked it when I saw it in 3D and I felt there was a small improvement from watching it in 2D but overall this can be seen in your regular 2D cinema. Overall the movie was still fun and had some parts tickling you and some scenes might even bring you to tears. Catch it now before the wizards take over the movie screens.

There are many disappointing high budget, high profile, highly publicized, highly star studded movies out there that fail and the latest Green Lantern movie seems to be heading in that direction. With this low expectation in mind before you see the movie, you are bound to be pleasantly surprised that the 2011 version of Green Lantern is enjoyable (although still disappointing). If you are hankering to see it, I highly suggest avoiding the more expensive 3D version and just see it in 2D.

I sometimes find it annoying to sit through a long discussion about people you do not know or do not care about and for many sequels there is often that same feeling of irritation on not being able to relate. While there are some moments in The Hangover sequel that call upon memory of the first film, the movie was overall entertaining and surprisingly enjoyable even for those who (perhaps like the characters) do not fully recall what the -ef happened on the first one. If you haven’t seen it, go out and catch it before it is swallowed up by the X-Men and Green Lantern flicks.

I am inclined to agree with a friend of mine that the latest flick from the Kung Fu Panda franchise is the series’ Empire Strikes Back. The movie explores deeper concepts from the first film and yet remains fun and humorous. I think though that most of the supporting characters still remain two-dimensional apart perhaps from Po’s father. Needless to say, Kung “Fun” Panda 2 is a solid movie to keep you entertained and will hopefully be followed through.

The first ever X-Men comic I read featured Jubilee – I borrowed it from a friend of mine who religiously collected it. Flash forward 15 or so years since I first marveled at the plight of special people portrayed as heroes and we get to X-Men First Class.

I for one do not know where the X-Men began or how they met yet the latest release from the franchise made me appreciate the origins of some of our favorite mutants. X-Men First Class still packs a lot of punches (even after being the 5th release in the series) and is not too dragging or too haphazardly put together. It even takes apart a couple of things that may have made you think about the first few movies. If this movie is a proper “restart” to the series, I think we can safely say that we’ll be expecting a lot more from the franchise in the year’s to come.

The dictionary defines insidious as proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with harmful effects. On the upside, Insidious the movie, was fast even if the story telling was gradual and nowhere near subtle. As a “scary” movie that comes to us stateside, I didn’t find it particularly scary although most of the audiences I watched it with screamed and gasped at most parts (quite effective then?). It’s not a bad movie and has a bit of the classic horror/scary movie film making techniques but not many surprises in the story so if you’re looking for an afternoon to get scared, catch it on your favorite cinemas.
