Nature works its wonders

What happens to a sunken galley when left to nature’s wonders? It becomes a beautiful reef teeming with fishes and coral. This one is still off Coron, Palawan and is rather a recent discovery. The ship is in about 15 feet of water and lies on it’s port side. You can still see most parts of it in clear day light although it’s not the best thing to explore for divers since it doesn’t have that much features. It’s a delight for snorkelers though as a pump boat can easily navigate you to it.

Look at all the fish!

Well actually the fish in the picture is not that much compared to the other diving spots in the area. The reef is actually growing on the side of a sunken galley hence the rich red rust. You could drop in this reef and all the others like it in Coron, Palawan. Take some time off work and enjoy a weekend or so there.

This is one of three springs in the Makanit Salt Water Hot Springs. With temperatures that go up to 40 Celcius, the spring is a nice way to relax your body although maybe sitting there for more than an hour or so can get you cooked where the sun hasn’t baked you…

One of the best things about Palawan is its marine life. Diving and snorkeling around some of the best reefs (and wrecks) in the country is a simply delightful. I have to admit that I am no Eric Cheng but hey it was worth a shot.

Where turtles lay

Treasure Island was made famous by two things, first is gold, the other is turtles. According to locals, the island was where the Spanish kept some treasures. I am yet to verify this but some people say that the National Museum conducted some dives in the area. The other thing that lends the island is name are turtles. This island is where some turtles lay their eggs. Sadly, the guides we were with refused to wait till July for some turtles to come.

First step

When I first stepped on Coral Bay Island in Palawan so many years ago (4 I think), it was high tide and parts of the pier where submerged under water. The water was just a few inches on the pier making it look like a fantastic but slightly wet welcome. Small fishes were literally at my feet, playing around and chasing each other in small schools. This was my first step on the island, and then I was sure that it will definitely not be my last.
