If you've ever heard of stories from foreigners or locals about how they survived the buses in Manila, chances are it might be true. Generally, the city buses here are refurnished ones from Japan. They strip the buses that are decommissioned in Japan and continue using it here. Some of the operators believe this is cheaper but the pollution coming from second hand, poorly maintained buses will already make you fear commuting. Eitherway, if pollution from buses doesn't kill you, you could always get run over by one?

A good news is that the MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) together with the LTO (Land Transportation Office) is cracking down on illegal and smoke belching buses. This is one of the impounds chockfull with illegally operated buses.
