A coup attempt was foiled early today according to the Philippine Army Commanding General Hermogenes Esperon. Security has been tightened around Makati and Ortigas (both are business districts) while it's a double red alert around the Malacanang Palace and surrounding area. Classes have been suspended. All permits for rallies in Quezon City and permits to carry firearms have been cancelled. Police and Military presence have been heightened.
